3 Steps to Gain a Little Mental Clarity

Making time for yourself can be really difficult as a small business owner. There really is so much to do and many days it seems impossible to get it all done. I totally get it! However, when you are operating from a state of overwhelm and continue ignoring your needs, you will eventually break or your business will. It's not sustainable. You aren't able to think clearly, make the best decisions, be as productive, or show up as your best self. Prioritizing yourself is vital in order to properly care for and support your business and those around you.

First off, give yourself some grace and recognition. You're following your dreams and that's freaking awesome. It takes a great deal of courage to venture out on your own and build something new.

the 3 steps to

Gain a little mental clarity.

1st || Consider what creates calm in your life.

What activities bring you the most peace and put you in a calm state? Make a quick list of what those things are. Don't worry if you get stuck. This can be a little difficult at first. It was for me since self care or considering my needs was a completely foreign concept. But don't skip it. Knowing what puts you in a calm state is really important so you can actually make space for those activities.

Take 10-15 minutes and think about when you feel the most restful and what activities help clear your mind. Some of mine are going on a walk, journaling, having lunch by myself outside somewhere, yoga, or taking a bath.

2nd || Schedule personal activities.

Look at your schedule and make a plan for when you will take personal time. It doesn't have to be set in stone and it could be 15-30 minutes a day. But put it on your calendar and inform others that you are unavailable at that time.

3rd || Protect your time.

Okay, this is a tough one. Do not let other activities take away from that personal time. Prioritize it! If you don't, you will let other things get in the way. Remember, when you are in a clear, healthy mental state you are going to be able to make better decisions, you will be more efficient, and you will be more productive. It is so worth taking that 15-30 minutes to yourself. You deserve it! And if something absolutely cannot wait, then reschedule your personal time. It doesn't just get kicked off the schedule, it gets moved. Think about it as a meeting with yourself. You wouldn't just cancel on someone else and never reschedule. A simple shift in your mindset can really help put this in perspective.

I truly do understand how easy it is to put everything and everyone before yourself. I hope this challenges you to consider and prioritize your needs. Give yourself permission to enjoy some time to refresh so you can show up as your best self!
